	Wednesday March 20, 2013 First day of spring but we had a half inch of rain and it has cleared up here and ALL over the West Coast.........including Seattle in a few days. We are heading out for a trip to pour wine in Seattle on the 27th. On the way up we will spend 4 days on the Oregon Coast and one day in Portland at a new restaurant. The way back will be quicker and we will be back on Sunday. Catarino is close to his operation so he may stay here........long story..........The winery will not be closed. I have a new BBQ so now we have to figure out where it goes............... We are re-modeling our Condo in San Francisco, what an escape from what I did several times here on this property. San Francisco is different, you get better deals because there is so much competition.................  We have a new look to our order form. Thanks Brad!!! Any questions or comments, let us know.   Monday April One, 2013 If i was younger I would buy a place on the Oregon Coast right on the beach so i could hear waves all night. The other night we were in Oceanside right on the beach, 100 feet away. I left in one of my hearing aids that night so i could hear the roar of the coast all night. The next door neighbor that day said..............."in the house up the hill, in one special room we would not be able to hear each other talk...........The Roar of the Oregon Coast is breathtaking."  If I was younger and more agile, I would buy a place on the Oregon Coast. If I had some money and was younger i would buy a place on the Oregon Coast. The time has never been right. The Oregon Coast is an escape for ever and I only want to spend 10 days a year there. Think of this.............we drove home Easter Sunday, yesterday from Crescent City, 273 miles from home down the coast in California, right over the border from Oregon AND did not see a car on our side of the road for 90 minutes. No one slowed me down for 3 hours. We were home in 4.5 hours on the west coast all on the water. There are few permanent people who live on the Coast in Northern California and ALL up the Oregon and Washington Coast. It is an Escape. I like Challenges so I will stay here. We got back from a visit with Susie in Seattle. I love Seattle also but it is definitely different form the Oregon Coast. Seattle is a city with many interesting things to do, BUT different from walking on the beach on the Oregon Coast and cooking a whole 3 pound Steelhead in 4 pounds of salt, fun. We even went out for dinner a few times on the trip, but mostly cooked in some great meals. Soon, I have to pay taxes and other bills so I will be off tomorrow to Costco to spend more money.   Saturday April 6, 2013 Some of you have heard about my Rants and you know I like a challenge So I am waiting to have fun. I know after living close to 70 years, most of you out there do not like confrontations. I am sure most of the people hired by the IRS do not like confrontations, especially when they are back at home in the evening getting away from some one like me.............. BUT they have to deal with CRAZY people and also a few of us WHO KNOW they are wrong............................................................................................................... I received a notice from the IRS that (The Bottom Line) David Coffaro Winery is not reporting cash sales!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK they said in our industry????????????????? What industry? In our industry? again,,,,which industry do they have us classified??? YOu will love this.............They CLAIM in this notice I received today........: Our industry receives cash 70% of the time......our industry receives credit cards anywhere from 30 to 60 percent of the time. We reported sales that were perfect and accurate to the last $ and they are accusing me of taking in cash and not reporting it???????????? They are saying I am a liar and a cheat and trying to cheat the IRS of taxes. This almost makes me want to be a Republican........Only thing some Republicans lie.............long story because so do Democrats,,,,,,,,............I digress. I am an honest person to the dollar. I would not cheat the Govt. I report all sales including cash. It goes in the cash draw and we have proof. We also report all the item wines that are sold. My guess is we sell 5% in check or especially cash. I know Cindi and especially Catalina read this diary at times...........so hopefully will vouch for me before they send me off to prison. Seriously it is disappointing but not surprising. My guess is the IRS does find some of our small businesses who do hide cash income................ OK, the IRS or mostly this nice lady in an office is trying to catch real cheaters. I am sure she does fine, but I know she will not be happy to hear from me first thing in the morning MONDAY. The IRS says I did not respond to them. They are asking me to pay $167,000 in back taxes. We reported $950,000 in sales and we did not break it down by credit card or cash. They think it is all by credit card for some reason so they are adding on $450,000 in cash sales. Was that my accountant's fault? Why do they have this opinion? This is the 4th notice I have received and I gave them all to my accountant. Hopefully after this notice he will respond to them. But first thing Monday Morning. I have an advantage. I love confrontations and I know I have reported all our sales.................that is all they ask..........the truth.................SO if now they are calling me a liar and I am selling wine AND not reporting it (This lady should do some research.........., Few sales of wine anywhere in the USA is by cash, and that is all we sell..........nothing else except a wine glass, and tasting fee, usually in cash, all documented). AND they say I am not reporting...................30% of my sales,,,, I am hiding???????????? We have to report inventory to the TTB, the Govt who collects our taxes. We report to the state and county how much we harvest. I am sure non of us hide the amount of grapes we harvest and buy. We can only make and sell so much wine from the grapes we take in..........it does not vary much by gallons per ton by year..............SO What should I say to this lady who does not like confrontations? I would like to swear and let her hear my rant. I would be honest and ask them to come here and prove I cheated the govt...............is that a mistake if I rant........I don't think so............. We are all unique and SO we are the only one who knows what really is within us
